It never crossed our minds that it would be the last time
I didn't say farewell, we didn't say goodbye
So I cry out loud
No chance for final words, no time to speak my praise
I only have one wish; to tell you face to face
So I cry out loud
"Can you hear me now?"
I have my regrets; the words I never said
Now they haunt me, they torment me
These thoughts are overwhelming, I am struggling to breath
I must rid myself of doubt, I must find relief
So I walk through the gates and kneel before the stone
I pour out all my heart, I want my conscience cleared
"Farewell my dearest brother"
I shout aloud for you to hear
Please listen, please hear me, please show me a sign
Hear my words, hear my woes, hear my desperate cries
I wish that I was there when you needed me
Your outstretched hand was out of my reach
Would it have been the same if someone would have stayed?
That is the question I ask to myself everyday

A truly stellar death/doom album with heavy doses of black metal. Tracks like Isolation, Child of Light, and Broken Hymns deliver the sorrowful and icy tone of this album, elevated by the stirring cello compositions of Raphael Weinroth-Browne. The album delivers a deeply satisfying crescendo in Becoming Intangible before stirring the soul once again with Epilogue. Matt Richardson

The first 30 seconds of "Revenge by Fire" convinced me to get the whole album! It is a face-melting blend of speed and black metal, reminiscent of Hellripper! KVAEN is a Swedish solo project much like Hellripper but many known guest musicians helped J. Björnfot in his endeavor. Altogether it is really a solid debut album, I loved the melodies and the pace changes in the second half too, ending with a "calm" instrumental one. Well-done!! sachavonkarl74
Crushing blackened doom from this German band that counterbalances blinding fury with moments of surprising, melancholy melody. Bandcamp New & Notable Jul 8, 2023
An outstanding slab of atmospheric black metal, “Sisyphus” cannily blends texture and terror for a gripping final product. Bandcamp New & Notable Aug 7, 2021
The eight tracks on the latest from German black metal band pummel and hiss, working occasional atmospheric moments into the din. Bandcamp New & Notable Mar 12, 2022

Jordan Vauvert
